Walaupun gig poster masih jarang dijadikan sebagai atribut memorabilia di Indonesia, di negara lain terutama Amerika dan Inggris sudah menjadi barang wajib bagi penggemar sebuah band untuk mengkoleksi sebuah gig poster.

Masa jaya gig poster kemungkinan besar dimulai di era 60 akhir sampai 70'an yang diprakarsai oleh venue kondang bernama Fillmore East milik Bill Graham di New York. Bill secara rutin menyewa artist dan illustrator untuk membuat poster dengan tujuan mempromosikan acara. Artworknya pun sangat berwarna dan menarik. Sebelumnya gig poster hanya berupa tulisan dan typografi saja. Harga poster asli dari Fillmore East bisa mencapai ribuan dolar amerika. Dewasa ini gig poster sudah lumrah menjadi benda yang dijual di booth merchandise. Tentunya artwork posternya pun bermacam-macam tergantung dari image band dan artist poster.

Di Indonesia, gig poster umumnya berupa selebaran yang serupa dengan baligo dan iklan-iklan billboard dan menonjolkan sponsor yang mengadakan acara. Namun sebuah institusi seni di Bandung bernama Scandal, mulai membuat custom poster untuk gig-gig lokal.
